- KayakAnglerThe SS107 is a very stable kayak. I was drawn to being able to sit higher and have more room than my Malibu Mini-X. I really enjoy fishing out of it once I get out to the water. I have plenty of room for my 4 rods and all the tackle I'd ever need to take. The junk drawer is a very nice feature. (It was an added 50.00 feature). It has room for attachments and accessories. It is a good kayak but I really wish I would have waited for other options. There are a number of negatives. 1) It's very heavy! At 87 pounds without the seat it is quite heavy to move around. It's a must to have a good kayak cart to get it to the water. 2) Finding a kayak cart that works well has been difficult. Due to the tri-hull design most carts don't work. I've tried 3 so far and am getting ready to order a 4th. 3) It doesn't handle wind well. I purchased the wings but haven't noticed significant improvement. 4) It is very, very, slow. The long paddle back and especially if you have to paddle upstream is much harder in this kayak. 5) Bonafide customer service hasn't been good. They do not respond to questions or requests for recommendations from their website contact page at all. I don't know why they even have one. I would get a different one if I had not invested $1350 in this one. I would not recommend buying one unless you are going to use it with a kayak trailer.
This is a great fishing "kayak". I rate it 5 stars because its better than anything under 12 feet. Because of the tri-hull design, I can't compare this to any true kayak. I consider it more of a "special use vehicle". Its a challenge to find much under 12' that holds as much weight and you can stand in this! Because you can stand or sit up VERY high in the adjustable seat, it makes for a better fly fishing platform than any kayak. I bought it because it fits in the back of my cargo van and I bought it for fishing in lake coves while camping. I would not use this in a river I could not row upstream. Its VERY stable, VERY adjustable/comfortable seat, and supports a large man with a lot of equipment. It is VERY heavy and you MUST have a specific type of kayak cart. But, if you take it to the boat ramp and slide it out of the van into the water its a breeze to handle. When i load up, I could do it by myself but my wife takes one side and I take the other and slide it back in. The cart that I use is very light, breaks down easily, and I could put it in the kayak hull but I just throw it in the back of my van until I need it. I have just as much trouble with a 65 lb kayak (I sold to get this) as I do this one so as far as I'm concerned It could weight 125 and I could still lift the nose and tail to slide it in the back of my van. It is slow but so is a 10' jon boat and that's what I compare this to and the bonafide ss107 beats a jon boat hands down.
